Silchar: Dasharupak Cultural Organisation, one of Silchar’s leading cultural groups, will present the 50th staging of its acclaimed play Aijo Aindair on August 10 at Banga Bhawan. The play, originally written and directed by noted playwright Chitrabhanu Bhowmik, was first performed in 1990 in the Sylheti language and has also been staged in Bangladesh.

The announcement was made at a press conference held on Sunday at the organisation’s office on Ullaskar Dutta Lane, Jail Road. Bhowmik shared key updates regarding the event, which will begin at 6:30 pm.

This special staging will be dedicated to the memory of Ashok Dutta (popularly known as Abhi), the lead actor who passed away in 2024. Dutta had risen to prominence through his performance in this very play. Ahead of the performance, a documentary on the late actor directed by Balaram Dey will be screened.

Shiv Shankar Dutta Roy announced that a commemorative souvenir will also be released on the occasion. It will include a poem penned by the eminent Shaktipada Brahmachari as a tribute to the play. General secretary Ashok Sinha Rajkumar further informed that the group plans to organise a workshop soon, and a new production is scheduled for December.

Santosh Chakraborty, treasurer Samir Ranjan Chakraborty, along with members Sandip Purkayastha, Dipak Nath, and Nayana Choudhury, were also present at the briefing.
