Diphu : The Government of Assam has issued a state-wide directive to all District Commissioners to rigorously enforce the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, aiming to promote a safe and respectful work environment for women across all sectors.

The directive, issued by the Personnel (A) Department, Govt. of Assam mandates the formation of Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in all departments. These committees must be chaired by senior women officers, include at least 50% women members, and have one external member from an NGO or relevant organization.

The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to zero tolerance for workplace harassment and the promotion of gender equity and employee welfare.

In Karbi Anglong, the District Commissioner Nirola Phangchopi has instructed all departments and institutions under the district’s jurisdiction to adhere strictly to the guidelines. Offices are required to prominently display the rules, conduct awareness programs for employees, and establish effective grievance redressal mechanisms to address complaints promptly.

This move reaffirms Assam’s dedication to creating a harassment-free administrative environment, ensuring women’s safety and dignity in workplaces across the state.
