Silchar: The Department of Business Administration, Assam University Silchar, in collaboration with several regional and national institutions, successfully organized a one-day National Seminar titled “Reweaving India: Integrating Indigenous Knowledge with Technology for Entrepreneurship Development and a Sustainable Handloom Future” today on 7 August 2025 at the Bipin Chandra Pal Seminar Hall.

Jointly coordinated by Dr. Joyeeta Deb, Associate Professor, and Dr. Lurai Rongmei, Assistant Professor, the seminar drew wide participation from students, scholars, policymakers, and entrepreneurs across Northeast India and beyond.

Vice Chancellor of Assam University Prof. Rajive Mohan Pant, during his speech said, “This seminar serves as a powerful platform for dialogue on blending traditional handloom practices with modern technology to foster entrepreneurship, sustainability, and regional development.”

Other distinguished guests included Lhato Jamba, Director of Dungsan Academy (Bhutan), Ravi Shankar Likmabam, AGM & DDM, NABARD, Tridev Choudhury, Director, RSETI (PNB), Sabnam Sultana, a renowned women entrepreneur, and Farida Yasmin, Assistant Manager, DIC Hailakandi.

A highlight of the day was the release of a new book titled “Indigenous Handloom and Handicrafts of North East India,”authored by Dr. Joyeeta Deb along with Sneha Nath and Anirban Dutta.

The seminar featured insightful paper presentations, a cultural show, and handloom stalls that celebrated the hues and colours of indigenous craftsmanship. Experts emphasized the urgent need to empower local artisans through skill development, technological integration, and sustainable business models that preserve India’s textile legacy while ensuring economic viability.

The event concluded with a strong call for collaborative action to weave tradition and innovation into India’s entrepreneurial and cultural fabric. PMO India Ministry of Education Dharmendra Pradhan University Grants Commission.
