Nagaland Mourns Governor La Ganesan’s Death with Seven-Day State Mourning

Kohima : Nagaland began a seven-day state mourning on Saturday following the death of Governor La Ganesan, 80. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast during the period, and there will be no official entertainment, according to a Home Department notification.

Ganesan passed away Friday night at a private hospital in Chennai, where he had been under ICU care after collapsing at his residence on August 8 and sustaining a head injury. He had traveled to Chennai in late July and was scheduled to return to Nagaland this week.

Leaders across the country, including President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, expressed condolences. Ganesan was appointed the 21st Governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023, and assumed office on February 20.
