Silchar: A farmers’ awareness meeting was organised on Monday at Nayagram under Berenga Part V (Ward No. 25, Silchar Municipal Corporation). The programme was conducted by Paribar NGO in collaboration with the District Agriculture Department.

District Agriculture Officer (DAO) Dr. A.R. Ahmed graced the event as chief guest. Among the special guests were ADO Arishmita Gogoi, Assistant Director B.B. Narzary, Assistant Inspector Pawan Chakraborty, and social workers K.F. Laskar and Khaled Laskar.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ahmed underscored the importance of farmers maintaining regular contact with the agriculture department to ensure progress in the sector. He observed that while over 70 percent of the state’s rural population depends on farming, many genuine cultivators are still deprived of opportunities due to poor communication.

In an interactive session, Assistant Director Narzary urged farmers to work in close coordination with the department to increase agricultural productivity.

Paribar NGO secretary Sharika Azmi Barbhuiya thanked the officials, noting that this was the first such initiative in Berenga. She stressed that despite its proximity to Silchar town, Berenga continues to remain an agrarian village and farmers—“the backbone of society”—must be supported for the nation’s overall development.

The programme was coordinated by Paribar NGO treasurer advocate Rizaul Haque Barbhuiya, president Abed Rasul Laskar, member Akhtar Hussain Laskar, along with other members of the organisation.
