Silchar: The Centre of Medical and Sales Representatives’ Union, Silchar, on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Central Labour Minister through the District Commissioner, Cachar, urging immediate measures to protect the jobs and rights of lakhs of Sales Promotion Employees (Medical and Sales Representatives) across the country.
Expressing concern over rising job insecurity and worsening service conditions, the union stressed the need for corrective steps within the legal framework. Their memorandum highlighted several key demands, including the framing of statutory working rules for Sales Promotion Employees under Section 12 of the Sales Promotion Employees (Conditions of Service) Act, 1976, in line with the Industrial Tripartite Committee’s decision of August 10, 2017.
The union also sought scrapping of the four new Labour Codes, continuation of existing Labour Laws including the Sales Promotion Employees (Conditions of Service) Act, 1976, and enforcement of Section 2(j)(ii)(b) of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, to formally declare Sales Promotion as an industry. Additionally, they called for assurance of unhindered access to hospitals and institutions to enable Medical Representatives to carry out their duties effectively.
According to the union, the fulfilment of these demands is essential to safeguard employment, ensure decent working conditions, and maintain the vital services provided by Sales Promotion Employees to the healthcare sector. They also urged the government for an early resolution, warning that further delay could adversely affect both the workforce and the delivery of healthcare support services.
