Silchar : Former Silchar DSA president Babul Hore and noted businessman Mahavir Jain have each contributed Rs.1 lakh towards the installation of a new grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Rangirkhari, earning wide appreciation across the town.
Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty thanked both donors, calling their gesture a true commitment to honouring one of India’s greatest freedom fighters. “Netaji is not just a figure from history—he is a timeless symbol of courage, sacrifice, and national pride. The generosity of Babul Hore and Mahavir Jain will remain etched in the gratitude of Silchar’s people,” he said.
The contributions were handed over to the Silchar Netaji Murti Nabanirman O Sthapana Committee, which is leading the effort to replace the old statue with a larger, more enduring monument. Committee treasurer Rudra Narayan Gupta and co-convener Uttam Kumar Saha were present during the handover.
Hore, who has long been active in Silchar’s sporting and cultural life, said his donation was a small tribute to Netaji’s legacy. “His ideals still guide us. This statue will stand as both a tribute and a reminder to the youth of Silchar about the values of bravery, unity, and sacrifice,” he noted.
The new statue is scheduled to be unveiled by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on August 31. Committee members expressed hope that more citizens will join the cause, stressing that the project is about more than building a structure—it is about strengthening Silchar’s cultural heritage and collective pride.
Once installed, the statue is expected to become a landmark where residents and visitors alike can reflect on Netaji’s enduring legacy.
