IMPHAL :Security has been tightened in Manipur ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on September 13, his first since the 2023 ethnic violence. Measures: Combing operations, preventive detentions, drone surveillance, and multi-agency coordination.

Venues: Modi to land at Kangla Fort (Imphal) and later address rallies in Churachandpur. Restrictions: Tourist access curtailed at Kangla; similar security at Peace Ground, Churachandpur. Webcast: Districts ordered to arrange public screenings of the visit. A dry run was held on Sept 10.

Follow-up: Modi will visit Guwahati for Bhupen Hazarika’s birth anniversary program. Meanwhile, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla met Kuki-Zo MLAs in Churachandpur to discuss visit preparations.
