Mridul Yadav warns of zero compensation, orders FIRs and seizures to protect high-speed corridor

SILCHAR : The Cachar district administration has launched a tough crackdown on land grabbers and illegal builders threatening the Panchgram–Barapani high-speed corridor, one of Assam’s biggest infrastructure projects.
District Commissioner Mridul Yadav on Tuesday directed the Katigorah Circle Officer to stop all unauthorized construction and farming along the Kalain–Ratacherra stretch of the proposed four-lane greenfield alignment.

The order came after reports and photographs showed a sudden rise in new structures and crop activity, suspected to be attempts to secure compensation before land acquisition begins.
Enforcement has been swift. FIRs are being filed, police cases registered, and construction materials seized on site. On Monday evening, the Katigorah Circle Officer personally halted workers and confiscated cement bags, concrete blocks, and machinery being used for fresh construction.
“Any activity that violates the September 15 notification will not only be stopped but will also disqualify the structures from compensation,” DC Yadav warned.
The notification issued last week had already made clear that the highway will pass through 45 villages in Cachar and that no development would be permitted without clearance from the land acquisition branch. By following up with direct enforcement, the administration has signaled a zero-tolerance stance on encroachment along the Right of Way.
The Panchgram–Barapani corridor, being built by NHIDCL, is expected to transform the Barak Valley by easing traffic, improving connectivity, and boosting trade and mobility.
Calling the project a “lifeline for Cachar’s future,” Yadav said the administration will balance the rights of genuine landowners with firm action against opportunists. “Unauthorized structures will get zero compensation. This project cannot be held hostage to vested interests,” he said.
The message from the DC’s office is clear: the corridor will move forward, and illegal obstructions will be removed without hesitation.
