Silchar: Cachar district took a major step in preventive healthcare with the launch of the first LAC-wise Mega Health Camp under the flagship initiative Susrukha Setu on Thursday, as part of “Seva Hi Samarpan: Seva Saptah.” The inaugural programme was held at B.N.M.P. School in Dholai constituency.
The camp was formally opened in the presence of Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das, Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya, Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, District Commissioner Mridul Yadav, Dholai Co-DC Roktim Baruah, senior health officials, and medical professionals.
In his address, MLA Das thanked Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for selecting Dholai as the launch site, calling the initiative “a milestone in rural health delivery.” MP Suklabaidya urged parents to use the opportunity for regular check-ups and healthy living, while also stressing the importance of yoga and discipline in building a disease-free society.

Rajya Sabha MP Purkayastha described the health camp as a “commitment of compassion and service,” noting that accessible healthcare is the foundation of a prosperous state. He praised doctors, nurses, ASHA workers, and volunteers for their role, and called on citizens to treat the initiative as the start of a healthier lifestyle rather than a one-day programme.
DC Mridul Yadav said Susrukha Setu aims to provide timely medical support to every family, especially in remote areas. Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Shibananda Roy explained that the camp was designed for children aged 0–18, with specialists in pediatrics, neurology, ophthalmology, ENT, and other key fields.
The turnout on the first day was strong, with 3,573 children screened. Nineteen specialist doctors provided consultations, 333 referrals were issued for advanced treatment, and services such as disability certification and Ayushman Bharat card distribution were carried out. Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Mobile Medical Units, and NGO Matribhumi extended support, while emergency care was ensured through 108 services.
Later, dignitaries toured the camp, met patients and doctors, and reviewed operations on the ground.
With Dholai setting the pace, the Susrukha Setu initiative is expected to expand across Cachar, combining medical expertise with community participation to strengthen healthcare delivery and reach thousands of families.
