Sammilito Loko Parishad to Host Agomoni Event on Sept. 23

Silchar: Sammilito Loko Parishad, a leading folk culture group in Barak Valley, will stage its Agomoni programme “Uma Aila Naiore” on Tuesday, September 23, at 5 pm at Silchar Sangeet Vidyalaya auditorium. The evening will feature music and dance performances to welcome Goddess Durga.

President Dr. Anup Kumar Roy said the organization has been dedicated to preserving and promoting folk traditions, and this year’s programme will reflect that spirit. The script has been penned by well-known folk artist, lyricist, and composer Manoranjan Malakar. Swami Baikunthananda ji Maharaj of the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram, Silchar, will inaugurate the event.

Manoranjan Malakar noted that rehearsals have been in full swing and members are working hard to make the programme a success. He urged lovers of folk culture to take part and help make the celebration both meaningful and memorable.

Sunday’s rehearsal at Dr. Roy’s Radhamadhab Road residence also turned into a moment of mourning, as members expressed deep sorrow at the untimely death of legendary singer Zubeen Garg. “His passing is an irreparable loss for Assam and the wider music world,” Dr. Roy said.

Those present at the rehearsal included vice presidents Pandit Animesh Deb, Shukkur Ali Majumdar, Shekhar Deb, and Dr. Suryasen Deb, joint secretary Soumik Pal, cultural secretary Pradip Chakraborty, music coordinator Bidhan Laskar, along with Ajit Deb, Tandra Roy, Jhuma Bardhan, Promesh Das, Shukla Nath, Reba Bhoumik, Amita Nath, Hira Shuklabaidya, Rajashree Chakraborty, Rajashree Nath, Dipali Nath, Probesh Das, Parimal Das, Babul Suklabaidya, Ashu Das, and Sagar Das.
