Silchar: The proposal to transfer 19 villages of Cachar district to Dima Hasao has triggered widespread resentment among residents of the affected areas and across the Barak Valley.
In response, the Cachar District Committee of the Barak Banga has convened a multilingual and multicultural assembly on Monday at 11 a.m. The meeting will be held on the fourth floor of Bangabhavan, Silchar. Organisers have urged people from all communities and walks of life to attend and voice their concerns.
In a press release, the district committee said the meeting aims to chart a collective course of action to safeguard peace, promote harmony, and ensure development in this economically significant region of Cachar, home to both plains dwellers and tribal communities.
Earlier, the Lakhipur Regional Committee of Barak Banga had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, opposing the proposed inclusion of the 19 Cachar villages under Dima Hasao district.
