Sonamura: In a major success against narcotics trafficking, Jatrapur Police on Monday arrested a youth from the Nidaya Gangkul area of Sonamura and seized 1,500 Yaba tablets from his possession.
The accused, identified as Kamrul Mia, 28, son of Farid Mia, was apprehended during a raid conducted on the basis of a confidential tip-off. According to police, a team from Jatrapur Police Station carried out a targeted operation at his residence, where they discovered 10 packets containing a total of 1,500 Yaba tablets, weighing approximately 162 grams. The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is around Rs.75,000.
Officer-in-Charge Smriti Kanta Bardhan said the operation was part of the police department’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking. “The police are always active in eliminating drugs from society. Similar drives will continue in the coming days,” he said.
The arrest has drawn public attention in the locality, with residents applauding the swift and effective action of the police. Locals have also urged the authorities to further intensify anti-narcotics operations to root out the growing menace and move toward a drug-free Tripura.
