Silchar: All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary and Barak Valley in-charge Bikash Upadhyay came down heavily on the BJP government in Assam during his visit to the Barak Valley.
Addressing a press conference at the Silchar District Congress Bhavan on the concluding day of his tour, Upadhyay said that his visit aimed to further strengthen and reorganize the Congress party across the three districts of Barak Valley ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
He accused the BJP of being afraid to face the public, claiming that this was the reason behind the delay in holding the corporation elections in Cachar. Highlighting what he termed as Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s double standards, Upadhyay said that while the government declared a holiday to promote the screening of The Kashmir Files, it failed to acknowledge the late Zubeen Garg’s film Roi Roi Binale, exposing the BJP’s “two-faced politics.”
Concluding his visit, the AICC Secretary urged district Congress leaders to intensify public outreach and ensure that the party remains actively engaged with the people.
