Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to launch a statewide “Unity March” (Ekta March) from November 10 as part of a nationwide initiative commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s Iron Man and architect of national integration.

Announcing the programme at a press conference at the state BJP headquarters in Agartala on Saturday, Tripura BJP president and Member of Parliament Rajib Bhattacharjee said the Unity March will be held across all ten organizational districts of the state to promote the spirit of national unity and integrity.

Highlighting Sardar Patel’s pivotal role in unifying India, Bhattacharjee said, “Born on October 31, 1875, in Gujarat, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one of India’s greatest leaders and a key figure in the freedom movement.

His tireless efforts were instrumental in integrating the princely states into the Indian Union, including Tripura in 1949. At that time, certain forces sought to merge Tripura with East Pakistan, but due to the efforts of Maharani Kanchanprabha Devi and Sardar Patel, Tripura became an inseparable part of India.”

He added that a Unity Run was held across the state on October 31 to mark Patel’s birth anniversary, with participation from Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, ministers, and MLAs.

The first phase of the Unity March will begin in West Tripura district on November 10, covering the route from Ujjayanta Palace to Hapania Mela Ground. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, along with ministers and legislators, will lead the procession. The march will then move to North Tripura and Sepahijala districts on November 12, South Tripura on November 14, Unakoti and Khowai on November 18, and Gomati district on November 20. Each march will cover a distance of approximately 8 to 10 kilometers.

Bhattacharjee further informed that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan activities and other public outreach programmes will be held alongside the Unity March. “Through these initiatives, the BJP aims to reinforce the message of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat – Ek Tripura Shrestha Tripura,” he said.
