Kachudaram: Tension flared in Kachudaram on Saturday evening as scores of locals gheraoed the police station demanding the immediate arrest of those accused in a brutal assault, robbery, and death threat case at Amraghat Bazaar.

According to reports, a group of miscreants attacked two youths at Amraghat Bazaar on November 4, leaving one of them critically injured. Four days after the incident, no arrests had been made, prompting angry residents to take to the streets in protest.

The victim, Salman Hussain Laskar, a resident of Mohankhal village, recounted that he and his friend, Anowar Hussain Mazumdar, were at the market around 8:30 p.m. when two local youths, Saptam Chand and Pinku Pal, called them to a deserted area behind the Seven Star Club. Several others were already waiting there.

Salman alleged that the gang tied their hands and legs before mercilessly beating them with iron rods, punches, and kicks. The attackers reportedly threatened to bar them from entering the market again unless they paid fifty thousand rupees. They also looted his motorcycle, Android phone, and nine thousand five hundred rupees in cash. A forced “confession video” of the victims was also recorded, he claimed.

Both victims somehow managed to escape and later filed a complaint at Kachudaram Police Station. They were admitted to the hospital, where Anowar Hussain Laskar remains under treatment. Salman named seven accused — Saptam Chand, Pinku Pal, Aphal Das, Bishtu Pal, Titu Pal, Sani Chand, and Bidyut — along with several unidentified persons in his FIR.

However, despite the identification of the accused, police have made no arrests. The inaction triggered strong resentment among residents of Amraghat and Kachudaram. On Saturday evening, more than fifty men and women gathered outside the police station, shouting slogans and demanding justice.

Protesters alleged that the accused continue to threaten and extort traders at Amraghat Bazaar, boasting that “the police are in their pocket.” Locals claimed fear has gripped the area, and many have stopped visiting the market due to repeated incidents of harassment and intimidation.

Agitators warned that if justice is delayed any further, they will intensify their agitation and launch a larger democratic movement.

When contacted, police sources confirmed that an investigation is underway based on the complaint. However, no arrests have yet been made. Officials said they are also probing whether there were any other motives or underlying disputes behind the incident.

Meanwhile, residents remain unconvinced, questioning why “no one has been arrested even four days after the FIR was filed.”
