Guwahati: The Assam government has ordered a strict crackdown on the online piracy of late Zubeen Garg’s final cinematic project Roi Roi Binale, after the film was found to be widely leaked and circulated on the internet within days of its release.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while addressing reporters during his visit to Dhubri on Monday, said the government has taken the issue seriously and directed the police to act swiftly against those responsible.
“We are concerned about the issue and have directed the police to take strict action against the perpetrators. I also appeal to the people of Assam not to engage in such activities and to inform the nearest police station if they know anyone involved,” the Chief Minister said.

The statement followed a formal complaint lodged by the film’s cast and crew at the Cyber Police Station, Panbazar, on Sunday. Director Rajesh Bhuyan, speaking during a special screening of the film at Elley Cinema Hall in Jorhat on Monday, expressed deep anguish over the piracy.
“By pirating Zubeen Garg’s final gift, the offenders have shattered his dream and caused his soul immense grief. We have filed a complaint with the Cyber Police and urge everyone to watch the film in theatres, the way it was meant to be experienced,” Bhuyan said.
He added that the team initially ignored short video clips of the film circulating on social media, assuming they were fan tributes. “We thought people were sharing snippets out of love and remembrance, but soon the entire film was uploaded online. That’s truly unfortunate,” he said.
The director also appealed to the public, digital platforms, and authorities to work collectively against piracy, calling it a serious threat to Assam’s growing film industry.
Meanwhile, a special screening of Roi Roi Binale was held at Elley Cinema Hall in Jorhat for specially-abled students of Jorhat Pratibandi Vidyalaya.
The film, released 11 days ago, has been received with overwhelming emotion by fans and is seen as a heartfelt tribute to Zubeen Garg’s enduring legacy in Assamese cinema and music.
