All refugees who have come from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are being urged to complete their citizenship process at the earliest under the Citizenship Amendment Act. Under no circumstances will citizenship be granted to illegal Bangladeshi Muslims or Rohingyas. However, it is our solemn responsibility to protect genuine refugees. The law of the Government of India is clear — refugees cannot, under any circumstances, be sent back to the country where they were persecuted. Moreover, their children will be eligible to obtain Indian citizenship by birth through naturalization.
