VVPATs begins in Dima Hasao ahead of Assam polls

Haflong : The First Level Checking (FLC) of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units for the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections has begun in Dima Hasao district, election officials said on Friday.
According to the schedule issued by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam, the FLC is being conducted from January 2 to January 8 at the EVM and VVPAT warehouse near the Additional Court Building in Haflong. The exercise covers the district’s lone Assembly constituency, 113-Haflong (ST).
Officials said the checking process is being carried out in the presence of authorised representatives of recognised national and regional political parties in Dima Hasao, in line with Election Commission of India guidelines to ensure transparency and confidence in the electoral process.
A five-member team of engineers from the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) has been deployed to undertake the technical verification of the machines. The FLC is being conducted ????????? from 9 am to 7 pm.
Election authorities described the exercise as a critical pre-poll step to assess the functionality, reliability and readiness of EVMs and VVPATs well ahead of polling. The entire process is being supervised by Shaurya Sharma, Additional District Commissioner, Dima Hasao.
District election officials reiterated their commitment to conducting free, fair and transparent elections, stating that all procedures are being strictly followed as per the Election Commission’s prescribed norms.
