Manipur Governor Assures Impartial Probe

IMPHAL : The killing of Meitei civilian Mayanglambam Rishikanta Singh will be investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla said on January 22, assuring an impartial and thorough probe into the incident.
A Joint Action Committee led by Inner Manipur Member of Parliament Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, along with MLAs Thokchom Lokeshwar Singh and Kangujam Ranjit Singh, called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum seeking appropriate action in connection with Singh’s death. The delegation was accompanied by family members of the deceased.
During the meeting, the representatives expressed serious concern over the incident and stressed the need for a fair, transparent and time-bound investigation to ensure accountability and justice for the victim’s family.
Expressing deep sorrow over the killing, Governor Bhalla conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and informed the delegation that the case has been handed over to the NIA to ensure an impartial and professional investigation.
The Governor also said that intensive combing operations have been launched since the previous night to apprehend those responsible. He added that the operations are being carried out on a war footing, with coordinated efforts by both state and central security forces.
Reiterating the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order and restoring public confidence, Governor Bhalla assured the delegation that all necessary steps are being taken strictly in accordance with the law, and expressed his profound regret over the tragic loss of life.
