New Delhi: The Prime Minister’s Office has received an urgent public grievance calling for the immediate rescue of Tangkhul Naga civilians reportedly abducted along the Ukhrul–Imphal road in Manipur.

According to details available on the government grievance portal, the complaint was submitted on March 11 by Sohan Giri, Founder President of the Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan. The petition alleges that 18 to 20 Tangkhul civilians, including a pastor, women and elderly persons, were abducted by suspected militants near Shangkai while travelling on the Ukhrul–Imphal highway.

In the grievance addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Narendra Modi government, the Amit Shah led Home Ministry, the Governor of Manipur and the state government headed by N. Biren Singh, the complainant described the incident as a “cowardly abduction of innocent civilians” and a serious threat to law and order.

The complaint states that the alleged kidnapping took place on March 11 on a key highway linking Imphal and Ukhrul, raising concerns about security in the region.

The petitioner placed several demands before the authorities, including the immediate rescue of the hostages, decisive action against militant groups operating in the area, and the establishment of permanent security pickets along vulnerable stretches of the Ukhrul–Imphal corridor.

He also called for strict legal action against those responsible, warning that such incidents could trigger wider communal tensions if not addressed swiftly.

Official records show the grievance has been received and forwarded within the Prime Minister’s Office public wing. It is currently marked as “Grievance Received” and has been placed under the supervision of Mukul Dixit, Under Secretary (Public).

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the complaint or the alleged abduction.

Local sources in Manipur had earlier reported that several vehicles travelling towards Ukhrul were stopped by unidentified armed persons near the hill district route, heightening concerns over the safety of commuters in the region.
