Silchar: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during an impromptu visit to Silchar on Sunday, made a series of strong remarks regarding the upcoming Assembly elections, with a clear focus on the Barak Valley.
Expressing confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prospects in the region, the Chief Minister said the party is certain to secure 10 out of the 11 Assembly seats in Barak Valley, adding that it may even sweep all 11 constituencies.
Sarma also made specific predictions about individual candidates. He stated that Bijoy Malakar would register the highest margin of victory among all candidates in the region.
Referring to Katigorah constituency, the Chief Minister asserted that Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha is set to win the seat decisively. He further indicated that Purkayastha would be in contention for a ministerial position following the elections.
In a controversial remark, Sarma also claimed that there are “no Miya” in Barak Valley, a statement that may draw political reactions in the coming days. The comments come at a crucial time as political activities intensify across Assam ahead of the Assembly elections, with Barak Valley emerging as a key battleground.
