Churachandpur: Tension gripped parts of Churachandpur on Sunday after a group of youths attempted to storm the residence of a prominent Kuki civil society leader, triggering a swift response from security forces.
According to officials, the incident occurred in the district headquarters town when a large crowd gathered outside the residence of Kuki Zo Council (KZC) chairman H Thanglet. The situation escalated as the youths allegedly began pelting stones and tried to force their way into the premises, raising fears of a major law and order breakdown in the area.
Security personnel, who had been on high alert since Saturday evening, moved in quickly to contain the unrest. Several rounds of tear gas shells were fired to disperse the crowd and prevent further escalation.
Officials said the situation was eventually brought under control, and no major injuries have been reported so far. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and additional security measures have been put in place to prevent any further disturbances.
