The decision comes amid fears that anti-social elements may exploit social media platforms to spread provocative content
KRC TIMES Manipur Bureau
Imphal: In response to a tense law and order situation, the Governor of Manipur has ordered the temporary suspension of internet and mobile data services across five districts — Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Kakching, and Bishnupur.
The decision comes amid fears that anti-social elements may exploit social media platforms to spread provocative content. Authorities said there is a risk of circulation of misleading images, hate speech, and inflammatory videos that could trigger unrest and disturb public peace.
According to the official order, the suspension aims to curb the spread of misinformation and rumours through platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Authorities are also concerned about the use of bulk SMS services to mobilise crowds and escalate tensions.
Officials stated that the restriction is a preventive measure to maintain peace and stability in the affected districts. Further updates are expected based on the evolving situation.
