Tezpur: Tezpur University has outlined an ambitious expansion and academic development roadmap for the 2026–27 academic session, with a strong focus on multidisciplinary learning, research collaboration, and infrastructure growth.

Addressing a media interaction on April 22, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das, who is currently serving as the in-charge Vice-Chancellor, said the university aims to evolve into a comprehensive academic hub that encourages versatility and holistic development beyond conventional teaching models.

As part of its academic expansion plan, the university is awaiting approval from the University Grants Commission to introduce new departments in Economics, Psychology, Political Science, Geography, Performing Arts, and Vocational Studies and Skill Development.

In a parallel development, the Ministry of Education has already approved the establishment of a Department of Tribal Studies, which is expected to be operationalised in the near future.

Officials said the planned expansion is aligned with broader efforts to strengthen interdisciplinary education and enhance the university’s academic and research ecosystem.
