New Delhi: A major fire scare was reported at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of Sunday after smoke and flames were noticed near the landing gear of a Zurich-bound SWISS flight.

The aircraft, operated by Swiss International Air Lines, was carrying 232 passengers and 13 crew members. It aborted takeoff on the runway following an engine-related issue, prompting authorities to declare a full emergency around 2 am.

Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides as fire tenders rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. At least six people sustained minor injuries during the evacuation, officials said.

Despite the incident, airport operations remained largely unaffected. Authorities added that technical teams will conduct a detailed inspection of the aircraft as part of the investigation.
