Keonjhar: In a disturbing incident from Odisha, a tribal man allegedly exhumed his sister’s remains and carried them to a rural bank after failing to provide official proof of her death.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in Mallipasi village under Patna police station limits in Keonjhar district. The man, identified as Jitu Munda, had approached the bank to withdraw his deceased sister’s savings.

According to reports, bank officials asked him to furnish valid documents, including a death certificate, before processing the request. Munda, who is illiterate, reportedly could not understand the requirement and struggled to arrange the paperwork.

In a shocking turn, he later returned to the bank carrying his sister’s skeletal remains as proof of her death. The act caused panic among bank staff and customers, prompting officials to alert the police.

Police reached the spot and took control of the situation. Further inquiry into the incident is underway.

The episode has raised concerns over the lack of awareness and accessibility of basic documentation procedures in remote areas, especially among vulnerable communities.
