Silchar: Eager anticipation is building across Cachar district as counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly elections is set to take place on May 4. The district administration has said all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and timely process.
According to officials, counting will begin at 8 am with postal ballots. The counting of votes recorded in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will follow from 8:30 am onwards. The exercise will be conducted simultaneously across all seven Assembly constituencies in the district. To handle the volume efficiently, authorities have set up 14 counting tables at each centre.
Keeping in view the number of postal ballots, special arrangements have been made to count more than 500 ballots per table, ensuring faster processing without compromising accuracy. Security measures and logistical support have also been strengthened at all counting centres, officials added.
With preparations now complete, all eyes are on May 4 when results will begin to emerge, shaping the political landscape of the district.
