Guwahati: The documentary The Battle of Kamrup, directed by IRS officer Padmapani Bora, has won the Best Screenplay award in the documentary category at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2026.

The film draws from Assam’s history and is based on King Prithu’s victory over Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1206 AD. It attempts to present a cinematic retelling of the regional past, highlighting a lesser-known chapter of history.

Bora, who is currently serving in the Indian Revenue Service, has directed the project with a focus on bringing local history to a wider audience through documentary storytelling. The Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival is regarded as a prominent platform that recognises independent and documentary films from across the country.
