Guwahati: Janobi Mandal, president of Dharmasala Gaon Panchayat in Dhubri, on Monday withdrew her writ petition from the Gauhati High Court after an FIR was lodged against her alleging submission of a forged birth certificate in connection with proceedings related to disqualification under Assam’s child marriage laws.
The petition, registered as WP(C) No. 957/2026, had challenged legal proceedings linked to child-marriage disqualification provisions. The matter was later withdrawn and disposed of by the court following allegations that fabricated public documents had been submitted during the proceedings.
According to a complaint lodged at Dhubri Police Station by Mohibul Hoque, one of the respondents in the writ petition, Mandal and her husband, Basir Uddin, allegedly conspired to create a fake birth certificate for their son, Sakib Hasan.
The FIR alleges that the forged document was prepared to influence proceedings connected to disqualification provisions under Assam’s laws aimed at preventing child marriage among elected panchayat representatives.
Police are investigating the allegations, while further legal action is expected based on the findings of the inquiry.
