Shillong: The Meghalaya government has launched a recruitment drive for 59 faculty positions at the upcoming Tura Medical College, marking a major step towards making the institution operational in the 2026-27 academic session.
According to a notification issued by the state Health and Family Welfare Department on May 12, applications have been invited for 14 professor posts, 20 associate professor posts and 25 assistant professor posts across various medical disciplines.
The medical college, being established in the West Garo Hills region, is part of a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at strengthening medical education infrastructure in the Northeast India and improving healthcare services in the region.
Officials said the recruitment process is an important milestone in preparing the institution for academic and clinical operations. Once functional, the college is expected to enhance access to medical education for students from Meghalaya and neighbouring states, while also boosting healthcare delivery in the region.
The proposed Tura Medical College is expected to play a key role in addressing the shortage of healthcare professionals and medical facilities in western Meghalaya.
