Gangtok: A 650-metre-long viaduct at Namli in Gangtok district has been opened for commercial operation, significantly improving connectivity between National Highway-10 and Airport Road NH-717A, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday, May 20.
The statement said the viaduct became operational on May 19 following directions from the Chief Secretary.
Built at an average height of 25 metres above the ground, the elevated structure passes between the National Science Museum and the State Science Centre, marking a major infrastructure milestone for the region.
Officials said the new viaduct is expected to ease traffic movement and strengthen road connectivity in and around Gangtok, especially for commuters travelling towards the airport corridor.
The project is also being seen as an important step in improving urban transport infrastructure and supporting the growing transportation needs of the state.
