Mizoram: Mizoram Sports Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar has said that the state government is strengthening sports development at the grassroots level with a long-term vision of producing athletes capable of representing India at the Olympic Games.

Speaking at the inauguration of the P C Gabriel Lalliansanga Memorial MBA Junior Official Badminton Championship in Aizawl, the minister said the government is working to restructure Mizoram’s sports ecosystem to identify and nurture talent from an early age.

Hmar stated that special attention is being given to Olympic disciplines in which athletes from Mizoram have shown strong potential over the years. He said the government aims to create better training facilities, coaching support and opportunities for young sportspersons across the state.

The minister also stressed the importance of grassroots competitions in helping young athletes gain exposure and develop confidence at an early stage.

The championship witnessed participation from young badminton players from different parts of Mizoram and was attended by sports officials, coaches and enthusiasts.
