Imphal: The Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) on Friday demanded the unconditional release of its office bearers, including the MPYC president, who were detained during protests held outside the Chief Minister’s Bungalow.

Addressing reporters at Congress Bhavan, MPYC vice president Thingujam Kiran Singh said the protest was organised over the continuing conflict situation in Manipur and what he described as the government’s failure to bring a permanent solution despite three years of violence.

He alleged that innocent civilians continue to be killed, displaced and reported missing while the authorities remain more focused on elections instead of resolving the crisis. Kiran Singh also questioned the progress of investigations handled by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), claiming that no visible arrests have been made so far in several cases linked to the violence.

The party urged the authorities to immediately release all detained MPYC leaders and workers without any conditions. The protest and subsequent detentions have once again highlighted growing political tension over the prolonged unrest in Manipur.
