SILCHAR : A 25-year-old journalist was allegedly assaulted by a group of unidentified miscreants in Assam’s Silchar on Wednesday evening, while the office of local media house Barak Bani was also vandalised during the attack.

According to reports, the incident took place around 7:30 pm when several youths allegedly attacked the journalist and damaged property inside the media office premises, triggering panic in the locality.

Police said an FIR has been registered in connection with the incident. The complaint includes charges related to unlawful trespass, attempt to murder, robbery and vandalism. Investigators have detained one youth so far in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to identify the remaining accused.

Officials said CCTV footage from the area is being examined as part of the investigation to trace others allegedly involved in the assault and vandalism. Police added that further investigation into the incident is currently in progress.
