Imphal: The Joint Tribes’ Council Manipur (JTCM) has announced a total emergency shutdown across the Zeliangrong region, intensifying pressure on authorities over the unresolved disappearance of six Naga civilians allegedly abducted on May 13.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the council said the shutdown would continue indefinitely until the missing men are located, returned safely, and justice is ensured. The decision comes amid growing concerns among Naga organisations over the lack of progress in tracing the civilians nearly three weeks after their reported abduction.

The JTCM expressed strong dissatisfaction over recent developments surrounding the release of 14 Kuki refugees following discussions involving authorities and the United Naga Council (UNC), while the whereabouts of the six missing civilians remain unknown.

According to the council, the six Naga civilians were allegedly abducted by refugees from Leilon Veiphei Kuki village with the support of illegal Kuki militant groups. The organisation alleged that despite the passage of nearly three weeks since the incident, security agencies and the administration have failed to locate the missing individuals or secure their release.

The council stated that the emergency shutdown would remain in force across the Zeliangrong region until concrete action is taken to recover the missing civilians and hold those responsible accountable.

The development is expected to further heighten tensions in the region, where ethnic and security-related issues have continued to remain a matter of concern. Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the shutdown call.
