Diphu : In a significant step towards bridging the digital divide, the Government of India has sanctioned 154 new 4G mobile tower sites in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) 4G Saturation Scheme.

These towers will be implemented by BSNL, to provide reliable mobile network coverage to remote and underserved villages where commercial rollout was previously unviable.

Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, welcomed the development as a major milestone in fulfilling long-standing demands of people in the region’s interior areas.

“During my repeated visits to rural and remote villages over the years, the lack of dependable mobile connectivity has consistently been one of the top concerns raised by residents,” Dr. Ronghang said.

He noted that poor network coverage had created serious difficulties for students, farmers, patients, entrepreneurs, and the general public in accessing education, healthcare, banking, and other essential services.

The newly sanctioned towers are part of the Union Government’s ambitious Digital Bharat Nidhi 4G Saturation Scheme, aimed at ensuring universal 4G coverage across India. The initiative is being executed by the Department of Telecommunications.

Dr. Ronghang expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision in driving the nationwide digital inclusion program.

He also thanked Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia for facilitating the project and Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for his support in strengthening telecom infrastructure across the state.

The sanctioned sites will cover a large number of villages and habitations across multiple areas, including Hawaipur, Amreng, Rongkhang, Howraghat, Bokajan, Lumbajong, Langsomepi, Deopani, Dokmoka, Langhin, Langtuk, Rongmongve, Sochenge, Sarbura, Sikari, Silonijan, and many other remote locations.

Highlighting the transformative potential of the project, Dr. Ronghang said, “Mobile connectivity has become an essential part of modern life. It plays a vital role in education, healthcare, emergency response, governance, business, and overall socio-economic development.

The CEM assured that he would personally monitor the progress of the project and coordinate with concerned authorities to ensure timely installation and commissioning of the towers.

He also extended appreciation to the Government of India, the Department of Telecommunications, BSNL, the Government of Assam, and all other stakeholders involved in the initiative.
The sanctioning of these 154 tower locations is expected to bring far-reaching improvements in communication infrastructure, integrating some of the most isolated villages of Karbi Anglong into India’s broader digital growth story.
