Agartala: A 26-year-old Bangladeshi national was killed in firing by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Unakoti district, officials said on Saturday.
The incident reportedly took place near Kailashahar during an operation against suspected cross-border smuggling activities. According to preliminary reports, BSF personnel opened fire while carrying out measures to prevent illegal movement and smuggling along the international border.
The deceased has been identified as a resident of Bangladesh. Following the incident, authorities launched an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances that led to the firing.
Security has been tightened in the border area to prevent any untoward incidents and to maintain law and order. Officials from both India and Bangladesh subsequently held a flag meeting to discuss the matter.
After the completion of necessary formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to Bangladeshi authorities. Further details are awaited as the inquiry into the incident continues.
