Guwahati: Cane & Bamboo Value Chain Management (CanBoo) has announced that its Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Kamesh Salam, has been featured in Business Today’s special edition, “Business Leaders Shaping a Viksit Bharat,” in recognition of his contributions to sustainable economic growth and green industrial development in India.
With more than 35 years of experience in the bamboo sector, Salam has played a significant role in transforming bamboo from a traditional forest resource into a modern green industry. His work has focused on generating sustainable livelihood opportunities, promoting climate resilience, advancing circular economy principles, and encouraging the adoption of green infrastructure.
Widely regarded as a pioneer of Northeast India’s bamboo development movement, Salam has helped establish an integrated bamboo value chain that connects farmers, artisans, entrepreneurs, industries, investors, researchers and policymakers. Through CanBoo, he has promoted innovative applications of bamboo in sustainable construction, engineered bamboo products, green buildings, furniture manufacturing, handicrafts, biochar production, carbon sequestration and eco-friendly industrial solutions.

Over the years, he has worked closely with leading international organisations and development agencies, providing strategic advisory support on bamboo policy, value chain development, sustainable industrialisation, investment promotion, climate-smart enterprises and green infrastructure.
His contributions have also extended to policy reforms and institutional development, including efforts to improve the ease of doing business within India’s bamboo sector.
Among CanBoo’s notable achievements is the execution of the Bamboo Village Vaults at the new integrated terminal building of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, a project that highlights the engineering potential of bamboo while showcasing the craftsmanship of indigenous communities across Northeast India.
