Police said the cigarettes were being transported illegally without any valid documents

Silchar: Acting on a tip-off, Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle at Gobindagupa Bridge under Kalain Police Station and seized a large consignment of foreign-made cigarettes being transported without valid documents.
During the operation, police recovered 1,490 medium-sized packets containing a total of 2,98,000 foreign-made cigarettes. One person was arrested in connection with the seizure.
Police said the cigarettes were being transported illegally without any valid documents. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and intended destination of the consignment.
The operation is part of the ongoing drive by Cachar Police against illegal transportation and smuggling activities in the district.
