3.55 lakh new registrations added in 2026

Guwahati | Assam has more than 15.43 lakh active job seekers registered with the state’s employment directorate, with over 3.55 lakh fresh registrations recorded so far in 2026, the state government informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
Replying to a starred question by MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Prasanta Phukan said that 15,43,350 job seekers were registered with the Directorate of Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship as of June 30, 2026.

The minister told the House that the department had 15,82,987 registered job seekers as of March 31, 2016, and has maintained annual records of registrations since then.
Data tabled in the Assembly showed fluctuations in the number of registered job seekers over the past few years. In 2022, the total number of registered job seekers stood at 11,53,971, with 10,34,613 fresh registrations recorded during the year.
The figure rose sharply in 2023 to 20,10,517, driven by 8,56,546 new registrations. In 2024, registrations increased further to 21,16,561, with 1,06,044 fresh additions.
However, the number of active registered job seekers declined to 11,88,160 in 2025 despite 2,49,765 fresh registrations during the year. As of June 30, 2026, the registry showed 15,43,350 active job seekers, with 3,55,741 new registrations recorded during the current year.
The government also informed the Assembly that 12,52,731 registrations had lapsed by June 30, 2026, indicating a significant number of inactive entries being removed from the database.
The educational profile of registered job seekers revealed that graduates constitute the largest segment, numbering 6,48,899. The registry also includes 1,16,159 postgraduates, highlighting the large pool of educated youth seeking employment opportunities across the state.
Among technically qualified candidates, 62,581 are diploma holders and 65,989 are technical graduates, reflecting continued demand for jobs among skilled and professionally trained individuals.
The figures were presented in response to queries seeking year-wise details of unemployment registrations and the educational qualifications of individuals enrolled with Assam’s employment directorate.
