Give Assam Government Until Friday to Fix Civic Issues

Silchar: A joint platform of 16 civil society organisations under the banner of United Citizens on Monday launched a symbolic ‘Thank You’ campaign at Meherpur to draw attention to the worsening civic infrastructure in Silchar. The group gave the Assam government until Friday to initiate corrective measures to address the city’s long-standing problems.

The protest focused on the poor condition of roads, recurring waterlogging, traffic congestion and what the organisations described as unscientific road construction.

Demonstrators highlighted the deplorable state of the main road connecting several key institutions, including Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), Assam University and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar. They alleged that the damaged road has caused immense hardship for patients, students, commuters and residents, while waterlogging during the monsoon has further worsened the situation.

Members of the platform urged the state government and the concerned departments to take immediate and effective steps to repair the roads, improve the drainage system and ensure proper planning in future infrastructure projects.

The organisations warned that if visible action is not taken by Friday, they would intensify their agitation in the coming days.
