New Delhi: Thousands of protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar on Monday despite heavy rain and heavy security deployment as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) went ahead with its proposed “Sansad Chalo” march, demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations.

Delhi Police imposed strict security measures around the protest venue, barricading roads leading to Parliament and sealing Jantar Mantar from multiple sides. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were enforced, while several Delhi Metro stations, including Janpath, Patel Chowk, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth, remained closed. Police had earlier stated that permission for the march had not been granted.

Despite the restrictions, protesters continued to reach Jantar Mantar in large numbers. The CJP shared photographs of the gathering on social media, while party spokesperson Saurav Das appealed to supporters to remain peaceful and maintain discipline during the protest.

Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently admitted to Safdarjung Hospital, reiterated that his indefinite hunger strike would continue until the government accepted accountability for the alleged failures in the education system or political leaders assured him that the issue would be raised during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The CJP has been demanding reforms in the examination system, accountability for alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The “Sansad Chalo” march coincided with the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
