Guwahati | Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that Aadhaar-seeded payments under the state’s flagship Orunodoi scheme will resume from August 1, with 37.1 lakh women set to receive direct benefit transfers in their bank accounts.

Making the announcement after reviewing the implementation of key welfare schemes with Deputy Commissioners through a video conference, Sarma said each beneficiary would receive Rs 1,250 under the scheme.

However, beneficiaries in the flood-affected districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat will receive Rs 2,500 this month as additional financial support to aid recovery and rehabilitation.

“From August 1, we will resume Aadhaar-seeded Orunodoi transfers,” the Chief Minister said, adding that the enhanced assistance for the four flood-hit districts reflects the government’s commitment to supporting families affected by the recent floods.

To facilitate smooth implementation, the government will deploy Orunodoi Sahayaks to assist beneficiaries facing difficulties in accessing the scheme or completing related formalities.

Describing August as “a special month for Assam,” Sarma said the state government would roll out several welfare initiatives over the coming weeks.

He announced that application forms for the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes would be distributed from the first week of August. The government aims to provide financial assistance exceeding Rs 300 crore to more than five lakh students in October under the two programmes.

The Chief Minister also said the state’s subsidised ration scheme would be revived from August 10. Under the programme, over 70 lakh beneficiaries will receive free foodgrains along with 1 kg of masur dal and 1 kg of sugar by paying Rs 100 per ration card.

Sarma directed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure that eligible beneficiaries are covered under welfare schemes and that benefits reach recipients without delay.

Launched in 2020, the Orunodoi scheme is Assam’s flagship direct benefit transfer programme aimed at supporting economically weaker households, with women designated as the primary beneficiaries of the monthly financial assistance.
