Imphal | Aadhaar enrolment in Manipur has reached nearly 88 per cent, although registration among children aged 0-5 years continues to lag behind, prompting the state government to intensify efforts to improve coverage, officials said.

The update was shared by Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home) N. Ashok Kumar during the inauguration of Manipur’s first state-of-the-art Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in Imphal on Thursday.

Describing the new facility as a major step towards strengthening citizen services, Kumar thanked the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) Regional Office in Guwahati for establishing the Aadhaar Seva Kendra in the state capital.

He said the Home Department had been pursuing the proposal for several years and expressed satisfaction that the project had finally been realised.

Highlighting the significance of Aadhaar as a key identity document for accessing government services, Kumar said the state had achieved overall enrolment of around 87-88 per cent, but acknowledged that enrolment among children below five years of age remained comparatively low.

To address the gap, he said the state government is working in coordination with the Social Welfare Department, Health Department, hospitals and the UIDAI to increase Aadhaar registration among young children through targeted enrolment initiatives.

Kumar also urged residents to make use of the newly inaugurated Aadhaar Seva Kendra for enrolment, demographic updates and other Aadhaar-related services. He noted that Aadhaar facilities are also available through Deputy Commissioners’ offices and other authorised enrolment centres across the state.

The newly established Aadhaar Seva Kendra is expected to improve access to identity-related services, streamline enrolment and update processes, and strengthen Manipur’s digital governance infrastructure by providing a dedicated, modern service centre for Aadhaar-related transactions.
