Silchar | The long-pending Capital Point-Rangirkhari flyover project in Silchar has taken a significant step towards implementation, with preliminary work for pile testing and soil investigation commencing at the proposed construction site.

Specialised geotechnical equipment has already been brought to the Rangirkhari area as part of the initial technical assessment, raising hopes that the much-awaited infrastructure project will soon move into the construction phase.

The proposed flyover is expected to improve traffic flow between Capital Point and Rangirkhari, one of Silchar’s busiest stretches, and provide lasting relief from chronic traffic congestion affecting commuters, businesses and residents.

Officials have begun preparations for pile testing and detailed soil investigations to assess ground conditions before construction begins. These studies will determine the structural design and foundation requirements of the flyover.

The arrival of specialised soil-testing machinery marks the first major on-site activity for the project and is being seen as a key milestone in the pre-construction process. Following the completion of the geotechnical assessment and other statutory procedures, the project is expected to move to the next phase of execution.

Welcoming the development, Cachar district BJP president Rupam Saha thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for moving forward with the long-awaited project. Saha said the commencement of technical preparations demonstrates tangible progress towards fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people of Silchar.

He also described the development as evidence of the state government’s commitment to implementing infrastructure projects promised to the public. Expressing optimism about the project’s future, Saha said he hoped construction work would begin at the earliest after the completion of pile testing, soil examination and other technical formalities.

The proposed flyover is expected to become one of Silchar’s key urban infrastructure projects, easing traffic congestion along the heavily used Capital Point-Rangirkhari corridor, which connects important commercial, residential and institutional areas of the town.

Once completed, the flyover is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety and enhance the overall efficiency of the city’s transport network, benefiting thousands of daily commuters while supporting Silchar’s growing urban development. Residents have long demanded the project as a solution to persistent traffic bottlenecks, and the commencement of preliminary engineering work has renewed expectations that the long-delayed flyover will finally become a reality.
