The proposed move comes amid increasing concerns over the safety of goods carriers travelling through the state’s major road corridors
KRC TIMES Manipur Bureau
Imphal: The Manipur government is considering redeploying state police commandos along key national highways to strengthen security and check the growing incidents of extortion targeting transport vehicles carrying essential commodities and fuel.
The proposed move comes amid increasing concerns over the safety of goods carriers travelling through the state’s major road corridors. Authorities believe the enhanced deployment of security personnel will help prevent extortion, ensure the smooth movement of essential supplies, and maintain law and order on the highways.
Officials said the government is closely monitoring the situation and is exploring additional measures to protect transporters and ensure uninterrupted delivery of food, fuel, and other essential commodities to different parts of the state.
If implemented, the redeployment is expected to boost confidence among transport operators and reduce disruptions caused by illegal extortion activities along Manipur’s national highways.
