Silchar: The Lions Club of Silchar Valley View, in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the NCC Unit (JD) of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, organised a School Safety Programme-cum-Disaster Awareness Programme at the school premises on Tuesday to educate students on disaster preparedness and emergency response.

The programme began with an introductory address by Sahidul Choudhury, CTO-3 of the NCC Unit. Lions Club of Silchar Valley View President Sanjeev Roy explained the objective of the awareness programme, highlighting the importance of equipping students with knowledge and skills to respond effectively during emergencies.

The main session was conducted by NDRF Inspector Inahota K., assisted by Sub Inspector Dinesh Kumar and other NDRF personnel. The team demonstrated a series of practical mock drills and explained the safety measures to be followed during both natural and man-made disasters. Through live demonstrations and interactive sessions, the students were introduced to emergency response techniques, evacuation procedures and basic disaster management practices.

The students actively participated in the mock drills and showed keen interest throughout the programme.

Principal of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Parveen Sultana Laskar, expressed gratitude to the Lions Club of Silchar Valley View and the NDRF for organising the awareness programme. She said the initiative had helped students understand the dos and don’ts during natural and man-made calamities and would contribute to making them better prepared in times of crisis.

Among those present were Jawahar Dey Mazumder, Dr. Sristi Nath, Raju Das and other dignitaries. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Babul Kumar, Director of Lions Club of Silchar Valley View.
