Hailakandi: Three persons, including a minor, have been arrested in connection with the alleged gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old Class 10 student in Assam’s Hailakandi district, police said.

The incident came to light on the night of August 1 when the victim’s mother returned home after attending a function at a neighbour’s house. On reaching home, she found her daughter lying dead on the bed without clothes.

According to police, the victim had sustained visible injuries, raising suspicion of sexual assault and murder. After receiving information from local residents, a team from Katlicherra Police Station rushed to the spot and began an investigation.

The body was sent to SK Roy Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Considering the seriousness of the case, police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed investigation. During the probe, three suspects, including a minor, were arrested in connection with the crime.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the SIT.
