Guwahati: The NSS Cell of The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) organised the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme 2026 on the theme “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” at Jyoti Mancha on Wednesday, bringing together more than 250 students to promote the vision of a drug-free India.

The programme was held as part of the nationwide initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, implemented through MY Bharat to engage young citizens in the mission of Viksit Bharat@2047 and encourage them to become ambassadors of a substance-free nation.

Delivering the keynote address, Taran Soni, Youth Icon of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, spoke on the theme “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat@2047.” He highlighted the importance of building a healthy, responsible, and drug-free youth population to contribute to the country’s development.

The session focused on the harmful physical, psychological, social, and economic effects of substance abuse. Students were encouraged to actively participate in nation-building, volunteerism, and community service while also registering and engaging with the MY Bharat platform to strengthen a nationwide network of socially responsible youth.

Adding another dimension to the programme, Pragyan Dowerah, a Meditation Trainer from the Heartfulness Institute, introduced students to Heartfulness meditation and explained how it can help individuals overcome various forms of addiction.

Earlier, Dr. Victor Narzary, Associate Professor and NSS Programme Coordinator, presented an overview of the activities and community engagement initiatives undertaken by the RGU NSS Cell.

The programme began with an introduction to the Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme by Dr. Sudarshana B. Khanikor, Associate Professor and NSS Programme Officer. Dr. Annesha Borah, Assistant Professor and NSS Programme Officer, welcomed the guests and felicitated the keynote speaker.

More than 250 students participated in the event and took the Nasha Mukt Bharat Pledge, administered by Dr. Kuntala Roychoudhury, Assistant Professor and NSS Programme Officer.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Nilakshi Deka, Assistant Professor and NSS Programme Officer, followed by the National Anthem.
